About UsThe Calgary Humane Society is a non-profit organization with a rich history of grass roots work on behalf of animals in our community. Founded in 1922, with just a single inspector, several committed volunteers and without a shelter, we have definitely come a long way. Calgary has one of the lowest euthanasia rates in Canada, a full service veterinary clinic for Shelter animals, cutting edge educational programs, an extensive post-adoption support system, more than 300 dedicated volunteers, a wildlife referral network and many ongoing partnerships with vets, the City of Calgary and other animal welfare organizations. The Calgary Humane Society is very much cause-based, born from a need for animals to be recognized as significant beings. As the community struggles to right the wrongs towards its human members, the Calgary Humane Society is there to speak on behalf of the animals. The past and future success of the Calgary Humane Society is the undoubtedly the result of the hard work of many dedicated volunteers and employees and our donors' support - all sharing the vision of realizing a better world for animals in Calgary. Our VisionTo lead the way and set standards of excellence for the humane treatment of animals across a broad spectrum of human/animal interaction Open Door PolicyWe are the only organization in Calgary and area that doesnt turn animals away. We believe if we were to limit admissions or turn animals away if were full, that these animals would have nowhere to go and risk being abandoned. Instead, our doors are open to any animal who needs us. We focus our resources on SNIP initiatives, adoption promotion and animal behaviour. As we keep working away at the source of the problem, we will eventually get to the point where we will be able to find a home for every adoptable animal that enters our Shelter. Were getting closer every day!
